I'm debating between using donor bone material for a neck fusion and my own bone. I've heard that bone bank grafts aren't alive, so I should use my own bone. But I've been told to be prepared for more problems from the donor site than at the actual fusion. Is all this true?9 years 21 weeks ago2398

I'm doing a little research on a problem I've developed over the years called spinal stenosis. I've had X-rays and MRIs and they could find nothing to account for my back and leg pain. I finally had exploratory surgery. Lo and behold they discovered cysts had formed inside the ligament inside my spinal canal. Once they took them out, I was perfectly fine. Is this a common problem? What are my chances that I'll form more of these pesky beasts?9 years 8 weeks ago3410

I'm going to have a second back surgery next month. The first one was a spinal fusion at L45. Now I'm having a second fusion. But I'm considerably older now than when I had the first fusion done. My bones are more brittle so I'm not sure using the same kind of bone graft (from my hip) will work. Are there any other ways to do this?11 years 29 weeks ago1476
I'm going to have a spinal fusion in the next couple of months. I'm waiting for my daughter to have her baby first and then I'll take the rest of my vacation time to have the surgery. I'm pretty disappointed. I had an artificial disc replacement and I'm no better than I was before. I still have back pain everyday. I'm still using heavy-duty drugs to control the pain. And I can't move any more than before. Am I a rare bird or is this everyone's experience?13 years 20 weeks ago1469

I'm trying not to overly obsess about my upcoming spinal fusion surgery. But I do want to be prepared for any possibility afterwards. But are there other possible (more serious) complications that I should watch for?9 years 31 weeks ago2497
